Position description

In my primary job as First Year Experience Librarian, I am responsible for providing outreach and instruction to the first year student population. I work closely with students enrolled in Univ 1000, BGSU 1000, and the General Studies Writing Program. I also initiated and continue to coordinate BGSU's Common Reading Experience Program. I help staff the reference desk (virtually and in-person) and am the instruction liaison to Higher Education & Student Affairs, Sociology, Journalism, Interpersonal Communication, and Telecommunications.

I am also Chair of the Department of Library Teaching and Learning. This year I am the Acting Instruction Coordinator and have taken on a few extra duties in the Dean's office.

Courses taught

EDTL 6150: Information Literacy for Teaching and Learning
3 credit hours. This graduate course is designed to help teacher practitioners integrate information literacy skills and information resources into the pre-K-12 curriculum. Assignments and projects are related to the content standards. Teachers also learn the information seeking skills to be more successful at completing research in their area of graduate studies.


LIB 2250: Information Seeking and Management in Contemporary Society
3 credit hours. Online. Examination of interdisciplinary topics in the context of identifying, evaluating, synthesizing, and ethically using information. Critical analysis of and discussions about issues related to the information age and how these issues have an impact on higher education and the work place.

Univ 1000: University Success
2 credit hours. Introduction to higher education. Development of skills in oral and written communication, time and stress management, interpersonal relations, personal wellness, library research, and studying/test-taking. Awareness of social issues such as AIDS, alcohol and substance abuse, acquaintance rape, and race relations.
